While Activision has at least confirmed the next major Call of Duty release to be Modern Warfare 2, not much is known about the upcoming shooter. Naturally, leakers and rumors have attempted to fill in the knowledge gaps until Activision fully reveals the game. For now, fans are hoping that many of the rumored details are true including a long sought after firing range, a brand new game mode called DMZ, and even the potential of running the game at 120 FPS on launch day.

While there’s still plenty Call of Duty fans don’t know, famed leaker TheGhostOfHope has again shed light on even more Modern Warfare 2 details. In addition to the campaign and multiplayer, Modern Warfare 2 is rumored to be launching with a third dedicated mode called DMZ, which takes inspiration from games like Escape From Tarkov. However, this mode may also be introducing a highly required feature in the form of a marketplace where players will be able to trade cosmetics.
According to Ghost, Modern Warfare 2 players will be able to earn cosmetics like operator and weapon skins, blueprints, and more from playing DMZ. While these will be usable across multiplayer and Warzone 2, players can also trade these within the marketplace, similar to some other games like Counter Strike: Global Offensive, which also allows players to trade their weapon skins, with some even making some money. What isn’t clear is if there will be only a certain selection of skins that can be traded and if it extends to skins earned outside of the DMZ such as purchasing through an in-game store or unlocking through the multiplayer side instead.
For now, the biggest question for most is when Activision is going to officially pull the curtain back on Modern Warfare 2. Although E3 2022 isn’t happening, the summer months are typically a hotbed of activity for companies to host showcases and events revealing new games. Considering Activision’s current relationship with Sony regarding Call of Duty, it’s entirely possible a new trailer could appear during an upcoming State of Play, though most seem to be convinced Modern Warfare 2 will more likely be part of Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest on June 9.
