According to reports, this was due to the inability of Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software to agree what to do with the project. However, a new rumor claims that Treyarch stepping in to be the lead developer on Call of Duty 2020 hasn’t necessarily resulted in a smoother development process.

This rumor comes from YouTuber TheGamingRevolution, who is known for his Call of Duty leaks - some of which have been proven accurate. According to TheGamingRevolution, Call of Duty 2020’s current state is “3/10” and the game will be called either Black Ops 5, Black Ops, or have some other Black Ops-themed name.
It should be noted that nothing official about Call of Duty 2020 has come from Activision or Treyarch. However, credible reports have indicated that Black Ops 5 will be set during the Cold War, presumably taking place in Vietnam. However, a different rumor has claimed that the Black Ops 5 campaign will be a bit more ambitious and take place over a span of 40 years.
This rumor claims that Black Ops 5 will cover the entirety of the Cold War, featuring both the Korean War and Vietnam War as settings. Perhaps even more notably, the same rumor says that Call of Duty: Black Ops 5 will be more gruesome than Modern Warfare, which has already been making headlines and drumming up controversy for its extreme level of violence.
Fans should take this information with a grain of salt. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has yet to launch, so there’s still a long way to go until Black Ops 5, though a reveal should come sometime in May 2020.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 5 is rumored to be in development for release in 2020.
