Halo: The Master Chief Collection originally released in November 2014 for Xbox One, teeing up the release of Halo 5: Guardians a year later. The collection originally included the full campaigns for Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4, along with a large multiplayer suite featuringg several original and remastered maps and modes. Other games like Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach would be added in later updates to fill out the collection to include nearly all FPS Halo titles.

No other Xbox-exclusive series has been given this treatment up to this point, but XboxEra podcast host Shepshal Nick says that will change in 2022. Nick said on the latest episode, via PureXbox, he had spoken with someone at Xbox who confirmed another collection is on the way and would be releasing sometime in either 2022 or 2023. However, he was not told which Xbox series would be getting the Master Chief Collection-treatment.
Many players first guess is likely to be the Gears of War series, which wouldn’t be the first time a series collection has been rumored. It can be argued the series is the second- or third-most recognized Xbox series, depending on how some players may view Forza, and has a game released on every Xbox console since the first game on Xbox 360. It also makes sense if Xbox is working on Gears 6 and is looking for something to placate players until it is released.
Another option is the Fable series, which has not seen a mainline entry released since 2010’s Fable 3 on Xbox 360. A new Fable game was announced at the Xbox Games Showcase in July 2020, though little else has been said about the game since. Players can argue a series collection would be a smart way to build up to the new game’s release by re-familiarizing players with the series.
There’s also a chance Xbox may look at its more recent acquisitions, namely Bethesda and Activision Blizzard, for a series worthy of the Master Chief Collection-treatment.
