The Brazilian has been heavily linked with Sauber after the Team Principal Monisha Kaltenborn refused to quash rumors about a possible comeback, she said: “We know what he [Barrichello] has – his experience, we know that he’d like to come back. So let’s see.”

The 41-year-old has had a remarkable Formula One career with stints at Jordan, Stewart, Ferrari, Honda, Brawn and Williams and going on to amass 322 starts during his time with the teams.

Barrichello took to social networking site twitter after the rumors reached its peak and said: “Lot’s of things have being said this week about a possible F1 return. The truth is: ‘if there is an opportunity, I’m in’.”

If Barrichello joins Sauber he will be paired with 18-year-old Sergey Sirotkin who is set to make his Formula One debut in the 2014 season.
