Fast forward to 2014, the Royals became America’s sweethearts with their unlikely postseason run to the World Series, eventually losing out to the San Francisco Giants in Game 7.

But now, there’s even more good news for Royals fans. Sportswriter Steve Rushin nominated the Royals’ fanbase for this year’s Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year award.
In Rushin’s essay, he recounts how deserving Royals fans are after enduring decades of nothingness.
I, for one, am a fan of Royals fans.
