The video was posted to TikTok last week by tulaay_nuridin, the bride, who wrote: “Thanks for the entry.” It has amassed over 17 million views and thousands of comments slamming the children’s parents. You can watch the full clip here.
The video opens with the bride and groom entering the reception hall. But as they make their way to the red carpet, a family walks in behind them. The two adults step to the side and wait beside the door. Then six kids rush in the door, but they don’t wait beside the adults that preceded them; they scramble past the bride and groom, who are just stepping onto the red carpet, and into the hall and line up near the red carpet, delaying the couple’s entrance.
“POV: you didn’t want kids at your wedding,” the video’s text overlay reads.
Children and Weddings
To avoid ruining a pre-planned moment, William Hanson, etiquette coach and director of The English Manner in London, says parents should “chat with their children to let them know what to expect” and how to behave before attending a wedding or any other major event.
“Showing photos and videos and having several discussions in the run-up to the date will help ensure everyone knows what to do,” Hanson told Newsweek. “Of course, children can sometimes have free-range moments when they go off-script. In this case, parents should remove their child from the room as quickly and silently as possible to ensure that the party can continue with minimum disruption.
“Parents or guardians of children should [always] keep their wards under control, especially during a wedding. The children may be adorable, but it is not their day,” Hanson continued. “A child’s manners and behavior say more about the parents than how cute the child is dressed.”
Viewers React
Thousands of angry viewers bashed the children’s parents for allowing them to run off and ruin the special moment. Meanwhile, many others said they’d be “fuming” if placed in a similar situation.
“This isn’t even my wedding & I am FUMING,” yatzirinorato49 said.
“I WOULD BE PISSSSEEDDD. So many ruined photos because of that. Like, the parents could have at least made them wait. This felt intentional,” extrafancy32 wrote.
Shiyalni Gowri Jana added: “Those kids have no manners. I blame the parents.”
