Rose finished tied fourth in 1998 to claim the Silver Salver as the tournament’s leading amateur, having memorably chipped in at 18 on Sunday.

A U.S. Open winner and Olympic champion, Rose lost in a play-off to Sergio Garcia at the Masters this year and enters this month’s Open Championship seeking his second major crown.

Back where it really all began, the 36-year-old decided to recreate his famous shot during a practice round on Merseyside.

Mark O’Meara won the Open that year, but Rose’s jovial personality and great game stole the show. It remains his best finish at the event.
